April 16, 2026—The wait is over for Holmsley Elementary School and Watkins Middle School. Both schools were adopted by Harris County Precinct 4 last week as part of CFISD’s Adopt-a-School Program.
Representatives from Precinct 4 visited Watkins on April 6 and Holmsley on April 10 for signing ceremonies that made the adoptions official. It was a moment Holmsley Principal Ana Diaz had been anticipating for years.
“Being adopted by Precinct 4 means the world to us,” Diaz said. “This is a partnership that provides a strong relationship that supports both student success and staff well-being. Ultimately, it strengthens our school culture by promoting connection and a shared commitment to student success.”

For Watkins Principal Andrea Lagard, it was a similar feeling of excitement.
“We are truly honored to be adopted by Harris County Precinct 4,” Lagard said. “We are excited to build a meaningful partnership with a community organization that shares our commitment to supporting students beyond the classroom.”
CFISD’s Adopt-a-School program is especially meaningful for Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones. She served as a teacher herself in her hometown of Laredo upon graduating from Harvard before eventually going into law. Now, she’s hoping to impact teachers and the next generation of students within her precinct.
“I know how important it is for students to have strong community support. From connecting with families at Meet-the-Teacher events to improving safety with new sidewalks, my team and I are committed to showing up,” Briones said. “I’m proud to expand that impact through the Adopt-a-School program at Watkins Middle School and Holmsley Elementary School, which will help provide resources, mentorship, and enrichment for over 2,000 students and staff.”

CFISD’s Adopt-a-School program allows local business and organizations to officially partner with schools and pour into them with their time, energy and resources. It’s a vision that Lagard can’t wait to play out at Watkins.
“At Watkins Middle School, our students bring incredible potential, resilience and diversity, and partnerships like this help us expand what’s possible for them,” Lagard said. “This adoption represents an investment in our students’ futures, encouragement for our staff and a stronger connection between our school and the community we serve.”
